$4,000-acre family-run camping property on the edge of Main Range National Park
Drive two hours south-west to a 4,000-acre family-run property in the Goomburra Valley, on the eastern edge of Main Range National Park. Gordon Country is a working farm and camping ground bordering the Great Dividing Range, with creek-side campsites, more remote bush sites, powered caravan sites, and a handful of cabins and glamping tents. Campfires are permitted in designated rings, swimming holes run along the creek, and the property has marked 4WD tracks, hiking trails up onto the range, and good bird-watching. Pet friendly. Facilities include hot showers, flushing toilets, a camp kitchen, and a dump point. Sites are first-in-best-dressed within each section once you arrive.
Step by step
From start to finish, what to expect.
Day 1
Drive from Brisbane to Goomburra (~2 hours via the Cunningham Highway and Inverramsay Road)
Check in at the Gordon Country office and pick your section — creekside flats for families, bush sites for solitude, powered for caravans
Set up camp, gather firewood (sold onsite) and light the fire ring
Afternoon swim or paddle in the creek, easy short walks straight out of camp
Day 2
Day hike into Main Range National Park (Goomburra section) — Sylvester's Lookout or Cascades Circuit, both start at Manna Gum day-use area a short drive away
Lunch back at camp, optional 4WD loop on the property's marked tracks
Bird watching at dusk, sunset over the range from the higher paddocks
Campfire dinner
