Pitch a tent or roll up a camper a few metres from the sand at one of Minjerribah's most-loved beaches. Cylinder Beach Camping Ground sits behind the dunes at Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island, operated by Minjerribah Camping (the Quandamooka-owned camping authority for the island). Cylinder Beach was voted Queensland's best beach in 2018 and 2019 — a north-facing surf beach sheltered from the prevailing winds, with a shallow lagoon that often forms along the shore for kids, and Point Lookout Surf Club lifeguards on patrol. The campground itself has powered and unpowered sites, clean amenities, hot showers, and a small playground. Walk five minutes to the North Gorge Walk and the Point Lookout cafes.

From start to finish, what to expect.
Day 1
Drive to Cleveland and load onto the SeaLink vehicle ferry (book well in advance) or take the passenger ferry and an island bus
Check in at Minjerribah Camping's Point Lookout office, then set up at your site
Afternoon swim at Cylinder Beach, the lagoon end is good for kids
Walk five minutes to Point Lookout shops for dinner or a fish and chip takeaway
Day 2
Early walk on the North Gorge Walk boardwalk (1.5km, easy) — dolphins, turtles, and from June to November, whales
Swim at Main Beach or Frenchmans Beach in the afternoon
Sunset back at Cylinder Beach, the headland lights up at golden hour
Dinner cooked at the campsite or at the Point Lookout Bowls Club
