Spend a couple of hours moving through Australia's largest modern art gallery, free of charge. GOMA sits on the riverfront at Stanley Place, South Bank, next door to the Queensland Art Gallery (together they are QAGOMA). The permanent collection focuses on Australian, Asian, and Pacific contemporary art, with rotating major exhibitions — recent shows have included Olafur Eliasson, Iris van Herpen, and Archie Moore. A dedicated Children's Art Centre runs hands-on installations for kids. The gallery cafe and bookshop are both well worth a stop on the way out. Open 10am-5pm daily and until 8pm on Fridays, closed only on Good Friday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
