Hike eucalypt forest trails and watch platypus at a wildlife centre fifteen minutes from the CBD. D'Aguilar National Park covers 36,000 hectares on Brisbane's western doorstep, with walks running from the 1.2km Morella Track and 3.2km Gold Creek Track up to full-day hikes deeper in. Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre at the entrance has platypus viewing, a nocturnal house and freshwater exhibits, and is one of the most reliable places in South East Queensland to actually see a platypus. The Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious road climbs through the rest of the park.

Drive to Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre, The Gap (15 min from CBD)
Visit the wildlife centre, platypus viewing, nocturnal house, freshwater exhibits
Walk one of the nearby trails: Morella Track (1.2km, easy loop), or Gold Creek Track (3.2km, moderate)
Optional: drive further into the park for longer hikes or the Mt Nebo/Mt Glorious scenic drive
Coffee at The Gap or Ashgrove on the way home
