The Glass House Mountains are a cluster of 12 volcanic plugs, 26 million years old, rising dramatically from flat plains about an hour north of Brisbane. Mt Ngungun (pronounced "noo noo") is the most popular summit hike, a 2.8km return trail through open forest to panoramic views. The mountains hold deep spiritual significance for the Jinibara and Kabi Kabi peoples.

From start to finish, what to expect.
Early start, arrive at the Mt Ngungun car park by 7-8am (fills quickly on weekends)
Mt Ngungun Summit Track (2.8km return, 1-2 hours, moderate, rocky scramble near the top)
Enjoy the 360-degree views from the summit
Optional: Tibrogargan Circuit (4.1km, 1.5 hours, easy, family-friendly walk around the base)

Rocks are very slippery after rain, avoid climbing in wet conditions
Sunrise and sunset from the Ngungun summit are spectacular but require a head torch
