Byron Bay
$Lighthouse walks, surf beaches, and laid-back bohemian vibes at Australia's most easterly point
Drive 2 hours south to one of Australia's most iconic coastal towns for an overnight escape. Byron Bay is famous for its lighthouse walk (the most easterly point of mainland Australia), Main Beach, and a town centre packed with independent shops, organic cafes, and a relaxed bohemian culture. Walk the Cape Byron Lighthouse trail for panoramic views and whale sightings (in season). The town itself is compact and walkable with a strong surf, yoga, and wellness culture. Stay overnight to catch the sunset from the lighthouse and a morning swim at The Pass before the day-trippers arrive.

Parking in Byron is notoriously difficult in summer and on weekends, arrive early or park further out and walk
The Cape Byron Lighthouse walk takes about 1-1.5 hours and is the highlight, don't skip it
The Pass is the best beach for swimming if the surf is up at Main Beach
Byron Bay is technically in New South Wales, not Queensland, no daylight saving difference currently
