Bribie Island
$Queensland's most accessible island, drive straight onto pristine beaches and calm bay waters
Drive across the bridge to the only Queensland island connected to the mainland by road. Bribie is an hour north of Brisbane with surf beaches on the east, calm Pumicestone Passage waters on the west, and a national park covering the northern third of the island. Woorim Beach is the main patrolled surf beach. The Bongaree foreshore on the passage side is calmer and ideal for kayaking, paddleboarding, or a sunset walk with the Glass House Mountains as a backdrop. WWII bunkers in the national park are accessible by 4WD.

Drive to Bribie Island (1 hour from Brisbane CBD via Bruce Highway, cross the bridge)
Morning swim or walk at Woorim Beach (patrolled surf beach, east side)
Lunch at one of the Bongaree or Bellara cafes
Afternoon kayak or paddleboard on Pumicestone Passage (hire from Bribie Island Hire Hut)
Sunset walk along the Bongaree foreshore with Glass House Mountains views

Pumicestone Passage is a protected marine park, calmer and more sheltered than the surf side
The Sandstone Point Hotel, just before the bridge on the mainland side, has a great beer garden with passage and mountain views, good for a stop on the way home
